What happens in episode 37

Jin Zhongfang hands Yu Changxuan his brother Yu Mingxuan's diary and leaves; Yu Changxuan closes the Xiangxi Hotel. The southern government reaches out in secret, and he begins talks with it. Jun Daiti knows he still loves Ye Pingjun, but offers a marriage in name only so both can work for the southern government.

Ye Pingjun gives birth to a son, Xiao Yu'er. Jiang Xueting has the baby taken away and says she can see him only if she eats and obeys, and never mentions the boy's father. At a banquet he and Yu Changxuan clash over cutting the army, and Tao Ziyi steps in on her husband's side. Li Boren tells her she is only doing it to get back at Yu Changxuan.

Dr. Xie, who treats Ye Pingjun, agrees to take a letter to Yu Changxuan. It reaches the Yu house, but Yu Zhongquan reads it and burns it.

Yu Changxuan rescues Jin Zhongfang's guerrillas as they defend a shipment of penicillin. Jin Zhongfang says he is a Communist taking the medicine to the border; meeting Liang Wenbo convinced him. Yu Changxuan refuels his trucks and lets him go. Jiang Xueting shows Ye Pingjun a newspaper announcing Yu Changxuan's engagement to Jun Daiti. She tears it up and says she trusts him anyway, so Jiang Xueting takes the baby again.

Xiao Yu'er gets a high fever that turns into pneumonia and is rushed to hospital. Dr. Xie visits that night. The next morning the baby is gone, and the staff decide to say he died. Ye Pingjun overhears and faints.
