What happens in episode 34

Yu Changxuan sends men everywhere to look for Ye Pingjun and finds a matching button at the site of the old fire. She reaches Siping Town hoping for a ticket to Tianjin, can't get one, and falls down a flight of steps escaping two thugs. Song Hanzhi and Liang Wenbo rush her to hospital, but the baby can't be saved. Grieving, she stays on to run a flower shop with Song Hanzhi.

Jiang Xueting hears the Yu family is searching and guesses her memory is back; when he can't find her either, Tao Ziyi warns him not to let it get in the way of their plans. Gu Ruitong goes after a sighting himself so Yu Changxuan won't leave Nanhuai exposed, and traces her through the hostas sold on the street. She believes Yu Changxuan didn't harm her mother, but her mother died because of him, and the one tie left between them is gone. She begs Gu Ruitong to keep her secret. He agrees, and holds to it even after seeing Yu Changxuan drinking in tears.

In Changling County, Jiang Xueting demands the Yu family's Ninth Army be handed to the joint forces. Yu Changxuan will join only if the whole joint force answers to the Yu family, and the others back him. When Jiang Xueting mocks him for walking out early, Yu Changxuan says a man who fights with a pen has never been under fire and that real soldiers don't gamble their men's lives, then leaves.

His car passes Ye Pingjun in the street without him seeing her. Out delivering flowers, she covers for Song Hanzhi and Liang Wenbo as they help a wounded woman get away from soldiers. They tell her about their organization and its aim of finding a new path for the country, and she offers what help she can.

Yu Changxuan learns Gu Ruitong has been paying a soldier to order flowers under different names. Gu Ruitong admits the shop is Ye Pingjun's and that the baby is gone, and hands over his gun. Yu Changxuan hits him, shoots out the glass in the door, says he has long known how Gu Ruitong feels about her, and gives the gun back. At the shop, Ye Pingjun tells him something always stands between them and asks him to respect her choice to do something meaningful. He agrees, promises her an answer about her mother's death, and asks for time to clear his name.
