What happens in episode 30

Jin Zhongfang brings the wine he and Yu Mingxuan liked and reveals why they came home: to start a reading society, as they had abroad. Yu Mingxuan had written that his brother was a born soldier and took the blame for Heishitan hoping he would carry on. Afterwards Yu Changxuan lies with his head on Ye Pingjun's lap and admits he always wanted to beat his brother.

Jiang Xueting, now head of a propaganda department, is mocked at a banquet for his limp. When two thugs harass a drunk Tao Ziyi, he steps in and gets hurt, and she lets him walk her home.

Back in uniform, Yu Changxuan burns incense beside his father, who no longer blames him. With revolutionary and central government troops fighting at Changsha, he refuses to join the civil war: the Yu army will guard its own land and improve its weapons.

An explosion hits the arsenal while he is inside. Ye Pingjun digs through the ruins in tears, promising never to leave if he comes out, and he appears behind her and holds her to it. Yu Jinxuan gives birth to a son; Yu Zhongquan names him Yu Zening, and Kuang Bingwen resents that the boy will never carry his surname.

Yu Changxuan gives Ye Pingjun a wedding dress and kneels to propose again. She says gratitude has become love. They swear on their rings to grow old together and spend the night together; in the morning she straightens his uniform and sees him off.
