What happens in episode 32

Gao Ping introduces Jiang Xueting as head of propaganda, and Jiang Xueting says Tao Ziyi is Ye Pingjun's sister. Gao Ping needles Yu Changxuan that his army answers to the Yu family, not the central government.

Jiang Xueting stops Ye Pingjun: they wrote to each other for four years and planned to marry. He says Yu Changxuan is a liar, that the scar on her wrist came from him driving her to try to end her life, and that his chase got her mother killed. Something seems to come back to her, but she tells him she is Yu Changxuan's wife.

That night she asks Yu Changxuan directly. He admits he was engaged to Tao Ziyi, that Jiang Xueting was her fiancé, and that her mother died in the fire at the dock hut. When she asks whether they were never really in love, he says nothing. He tells her she is free to go. Alone, she breaks down.

She leaves her earrings behind and buys a ticket to Guangzhou. He races to the dock and sees the boat pulling away, then finds her behind him. Yu Jinxuan had told her their real story, and she couldn't go. She makes him swear never to lie to her again. Jiang Xueting watches from a car.

Gao Ping, planning to report that Yu Changxuan wants to rule Nanhuai like a king, dies when his car blows up. Jiang Xueting arrests Yu Changxuan, saying the killer named him. In his cell, Yu Changxuan tells his father not to use force, which would let the government call the Yu army rebels and take it, and asks him not to blame Ye Pingjun.

Why it matters

Ye Pingjun now knows how her mother died and chooses him anyway, while Jiang Xueting moves from words to a frame-up.
