The Lament of Autumn episode 21 recap: Tao Xili's daughter

In short

Tao Xili tries to have Ye Pingjun drowned, then realizes she is his own daughter.

What happens in episode 21

Tao Xili has Ye Pingjun thrown into the water, and Yu Changxuan dives in after her. Tao Xili sees the jade pendant she dropped and realizes she is his daughter.

Her mother, Shu Wan, confronts him: he is the "Ye Zhaohe" who abandoned them years ago and remarried for status.

Ye Pingjun refuses to acknowledge him. When Tao Ziyi humiliates her in public, Tao Xili slaps Tao Ziyi.

Learning that Ye Pingjun is also a Tao daughter softens Yu Zhongquan's anger. Yu Changxuan takes her to watch the sunrise.

Why it matters

Her new status removes the family's main objection, just before everything falls apart in episode 22.
