Tigers Sniff the Rose episode 11 recap: Results day

In short

Yan Shang gets his third place back and Wei Shu comes first, but Liu Wenji fails and turns on Chunhua. That night a tipsy Yan Shang kisses the princess, and the Emperor starts asking about him.

What happens in episode 11

On results day Wei Shu is hailed as top scholar and Yan Shang sees his name back in third place. Feng Xianyu demands Guiniang back, only to learn she was never taken: he believed the bluff because he felt guilty. Yan Shang urges him to live by his talent, not by pleasing the Elder Princess.

Liu Wenji has failed. Drunk at the Cuiyun House, he sneers that Yan Shang only passed thanks to the princess and that Chunhua is just a maid riding on her favor. Chunhua hears it all. He tells her she should have begged the princess to help him, and she runs off in tears.

Li Zhi presses the princess again to marry Wei Shu, pointing out that her mother hadn't wanted to marry either. At a dinner for the two new graduates, Wei Shu is down that only two of the four friends are left.

The princess and Yan Shang are both a little drunk. He kisses her and passes out. She hauls him to bed and hears him murmur her childhood name, telling her not to be afraid. She is moved, but knows she can't give him anything.

At the graduates' banquet in the Zhegui Garden, Yang Si brings his cousin Zhao Lingfei, a general's daughter who has come to pick a husband. She accidentally hurts Wei Shu with her whip, then falls for him when he uses his alchemy to set fire to a man who insulted the princess. The Emperor takes an interest in Yan Shang, asks about his marriage plans, and asks what he thinks of the princess.

Why it matters

The exam results split the four friends: Yan Shang and Wei Shu are in, and Liu Wenji's bitter fall begins with how he treats Chunhua.
